Home Phone Calls...

Can anyone suggest a phone company for 'Anytime Calls' along with the tariff please?

Thanks in advance.

I'd rather not because 'mixing and matching' works out cheaper for most people.

However, if you scroll down to the bottom of THIS PAGE - to the heading Ф Possible alternative CPS providers (depending on your usage pattern) - there are 3 possibilities.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Heinz ... a quick question on hopping back to BT for 0844 and 0871 calls when on Primus as a CPS. How do you set that up with the Orchid Dialler on CWClient? 0844 and 0871 numbers are those often used for cheap international providers and so if I just want to phone internationally at the moment all I dial is the person's number. Can I somehow set up CWClient so that it does the 1280 and then the 0844/0871 number without me having to dial them?

I thin k I managed to answer my own question ... Orchid have set up a series of numbers which are 1280 followed by the 0844 numbers. But this means that for every 0844 number they need to set up a 12800844 number! not very efficient.

You may have answered it elsewhere but why do we need to hop back to BT from Primus for 0844/0871?

Purely to be certain that you pay BT rates for calling those numbers.

And the reason for that is that, when asked the question some time ago, Primus replied that they charge 0845 rates for calls to 0844 numbers and 0870 rates for calls to 0871 numbers. So, possible savings on 10p/minute 0871 numbers but certain losses on 0844 numbers (particularly the 0.5p and 1p per minute ones).

Mmmmm ... thanks for the heads up. Ive just checked my Primus bills and the 0844/0871 numbers seem to be being charged at the rates in the MSE Callchecker.

Good news - it appears they've seen the error of their ways then!

However, I'm not willing to take the chance and, as with freephone 0800/0808 numbers (for which Primus were mistakenly charging a few months back), I route all my 0844/0871 through BT to be on the safe side.

BTW, I also route the (very) few 0845/0870 calls I have to make via 18185 now.
