Just to confirm, you don't have to be a business seller to sell on eBay, but if you sell high volumes, sooner or later, they will direct you to register as a business.
As a private seller, they will give you 100 free listings, as long as the starting price for each item is no more than 99p. The good news is that it costs nothing to list items for that amount, and with popular items, you can rely on bidders pushing the price up. However, the downside is that some items will struggle to sell for only 99p.
If you sell more than 100 99p items per month, ebay will charge a lisitng fee for every one from 101 onwards and if you sell that kind of volume, you might find they tell you to re-register as a business.
The other thing, since you mention clothes, is that if you list lots of clothes of different sizes, eBay again seem to jump to the conclusion that you are a business, so I'd only list items of the same size/age at one time.
