Hopefully starting new job, how will this affect benefits?

Hi there, I was wondering if anyone could help or knew where i could find answers.

Bit of background - due to family illness i had to take a gap year from uni & help look after a relative. Thats sorted now so ive been looking for work. Im currently receiving JSA (£50 per week) and housing benefit (£378 per month) and council tax benefit.

Ive had a few job interviews and should find out about one of them tomorrow. This job is for 15 hours a week and the pay is £5.50 an hour, giving me an income of £330.

Now, if im lucky and get offered the job, and i take it, will I lose all the benefits im getting? (especially the housing benefit?) I desperately want to get back out to work and off benefits, but if I am no longer entitled to some housing benefit then there is no point me taking the job as I will be losing money.

Can anyone shed some light and reassure me that the system isnt that silly?

you can get a general idea by putting your details into http://www.turn2us.org.uk/benefits_search.aspx

from what you've said I'd expect them to take (per week) all of your jobseekers allowance, £16.68 off of your housing benefit and £5.13 off of your council tax benefit

but best to check with your council to see for sure

Where do you get the idea that 15 hours at £5.50 equals £330 per week

I believe OP means per 4 weeks she will get £330 compared to the approx £200 from job seekers
