Recommendations for a small car.

It's probably been asked on here several times before but can anyone recommend a small family car that is in the cheap tax bracket (£30) for around £3500?

Having looked around there are a few on the market but can anyone recommend ones that are most reliable etc?

Reliable is always going to equal Japanese.

And forget being obsessed with the cheap tax bracket. One at the £100 mark is only going to cost £70 more which is a drop in the ocean in the running costs of a car and if you can't afford the extra £70, you can't afford a car in the first place.

It will be the 2nd car so ideally want one that is as cheap as possible to run.

Is it petrol or diesel sealady?

I have a diesel micra - approx 68mpg but £90 tax. Super little car with every extra you can imagine thrown in!

Won't be many in that tax bracket at £3500 because only newer cars have really been in it.

I'd go for a Fiat Panda - you'll pick up a 3 year old one with average mileage for less than £3000.

Check out Honest John he rates it.

Others include the Fiat Panda (ok I know I'm still like a stuck record), Suzuki Swift if style is important?
