hi all just need some advice really
my husband works for a small company of carpenters - I say small there is only the 2 bosses (farther and son) and my hubby, well Friday they call him in the office and tell him that the company is going into liquidation and they are all being made redundant after 10 years working with them.
So instead of telling me right away he comes home and leaves it for two days before telling me.
so I really dont know now whats going to happen, he has had no notice, they said to him to still come to work as they still have jobs to do but they will pay him cash and he will have to go self employed which he doesnt want to do ( we dont know the first thing about all that). They said that they are all entitled to redundancy pay and that the accountants have all the info and that he will get a letter in the post.
but what does he do right now, he has all his holidays to take, they owe him 2 weeks wages ( they have always paid him a cheque here and there) and im worried to death as we have bills to pay, have serious debt that we are only just managing to cover anyway and im supposed to start uni in september doing a midwifery degree not to mention we have 2 young children.
any advice would be great as i dont know what to do, what we are entitled to, what to do about our debt ect.
As for the debt its substancial and yet we have no real assets we took out a loan in October to try and reduce our outgoings on credit cards which had worked fine but now with this i dont know how we will cope.
hopefully it wont all seem so bad in the morning but right now i could cry , ontop of that ive got an assignment due in on Tuesday

kate sorry to hear about your husband. First RE the debt problems may I suggest you try reading some of the DMP (Debt Management Plan) threads and contact either CCCS or Payplan both free. This time last year my bank refused me a loan, great shock as I had always just got a loan paid it, got a loan paid it etc. Might have been the best thing in the long run. Tough and scary at the start? yes!! but on a DMP you get to payback the money and the debt does not increase. You also get a life back as they allow you enough to more than just exist. I am now at risk of redundancy but my company does have its own plan. If hubby's firm does not I believe, from a bit of reading that the government has a plan that will pay out redundancy. Good luck MSE has lots of support threads, so you are in the right place.Paddle No 21 :wave:0
