hi,
few days ago i noticed a strange payment in my bank. it was listed as "east of england 302". so i rang the bank, they could see the payment but hadnt come across it.......put me through to fraud who said its a DWP payment as linked to insurance number.
well i rang DWP and they know nothing about it etc and said their payments go inwith benefit initials etc.
has anyone else had a strange payment go in the bank??? none of my friends who get tax credits/child benefit have had.

Don't spend it untill you can confirm it is meant for you or you will have to pay it back!0

Could it be a cold weather payment that's been wrongly listed?0

was it for £25?0

I had a payment for £25 go into my Co-op Bank (which is not the one I have my Pension paid into) from LTSB. I could not see it having come out of my LTSB account so I asked them what it was. They said it was Credit Card payment to Co-op Bank. I do not have a credit card with Co-op and the money had not come from my LTSB account.
I then told the Co-op who said they did not know what it was for!
It seems to me as though someone with an LTSB account has tried to pay their Co-op Credit card and it has been credited to my Account by mistake.
This was in September. As of today that £25 is still in my account.
To the OP, I would say if you have tried to find out what it is, and no-one can tell you, I would just keep it in your account and get the interest, don't spend it in case they suddenly withdraw it.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -

Are you based in the East of England?
Does the payee details list your National insurance number as well as 'East of England 302'?
Can your bank not trace the payment and let you know where it's come from? Last time I had a payment which was not expected when I called my bank they could at least tell me that it came from a private account.
What benefits have you applied for which you're still waiting for details?0 -
hi,
yes i do live in east of england. bank were not helpful at all, it doesnt list anything apart from the info above.
BUT i managed to get a number for main benefits enquiries, who after a long phonecall managed to trace the payment as from them, it is part of the emlpoyment support allowance, BUT they dont understand why it has gone in bank as it has not as "DWP, insurance number, EESA". they appologised if they have concerned me.
at least it has been sorted, and can now be spent!due to spilling coffee :coffee: on my keyboard it works when it wants to :rotfl:
