Spending now makes me feel guilty!!

I don't think you should feel guilty, OP. I think that we all have different things that are important to us and therefore are the best judges of what we should do/buy as long as we're not hurting anyone else in anyway. For instance, I have a totally un-MS car which drinks petrol and costs an arm and a leg to insure, but I saved for it, love driving it (I am a total petrol head) and know I wouldn't get half as much enjoyment out of a more practical car. But I live a lot more frugally in other areas like groceries and hand-making things. My friend thinks I'm bonkers, but she drives a very economic car and buys top notch grub instead of cooking from scratch. Neither of us is wrong, just different!
So what I'm saying, amid all that waffle, is enjoy your new TV - you earned it!0 -
Ah, into every life a little sin must fall...0

Me too! I think it's natural to be cautious of spending when you're so used to scrimping and saving, it almost feels like you're just throwing your money away even though it's something you really want and will enjoy. When I think about how hard I worked, saved or any sacrifices I made so I could afford something or a treat, I feel a bit betterLiving cheap in central London :rotfl:0

Yea you're right!! I work hard to save in other areas of my life like on groceries and not going out with my friends every thurs, fri and sat like I used to. So yes, I'm gonna try and stop dwelling on the dent in my savings and just enjoy it. :-)0 -
Dont feel guilty. I feel guilty if I buy a bar of chocolate, tomorrow I am going to buy a car, :j I won't feel guilty about that because it's what I want and have saved up for.

I always feel guilty about spending on me. If its on others I go a bit mad, if out with my sisters or a friend I won't order food or drinks for myself because I know I can get them cheaper at home yet I will spend money on them! I think its the way I was raised, my family were and are frugal. I always spend too much on my family at Christmas and they tell me off yet I will walk an extra mile or two if I know my groceries will be cheaper!0

So long as there is food to eat, bills are paid and you have all your basic necessities treating yourself on odd occasions is a good thing.. what else do you work for? You are not a drone and you deserve some little or not so little luxuries..
Now stop being guilty and go enjoy your purchase.. think about how easily you could have got yourself into debt getting one on finance or from a catalogue but with your new frugal ways you were able to make do until you have the cash to buy what you wanted! OS isn't about not spending money though is it? its about getting the best that you can for your money; I don't feel guilty about spending my money if its something I really want. As pigpen said, as long as your bills are paid and you have food to eat, you've earned a reward for your work... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Completely understand where you are coming from. We just spent £20 over the weekend, all of it was impulsive! And I have nothing to show for it... I feel guilty BUT it's the first time in a months I've done it... I have the money in the savings, and most important... I enjoyed itWe spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy! Mortgage Free Wannabe :dance:Overpayments Made: £5400 - Interest Saved: £11,550 - Months Saved: 240

I understand your guilty feelings. On a smaller scale , i used to love to nip into M&S and have a drink and a cake when i went into town. This was such a treat and only cost approx £2...but now it's not a treat as i started to put myself on a guilt trip everytime i went until i just didn't go in anymore. I then started to do this with with bus fare, as it actually only takes 25 mins to town to walk and it costs £1.70 each way:eek:.
So now i don't get a drink and a cake and i walk both ways...i suppose it is more healthy though0
