Hi,
I received my nationwide cc bill on the 14th Jan and the minimum payment was due in the 13th Jan.
As my payment is now late, they have charged me £12 late payment fee and about £20 interest.
Does anyone have any experience of calling them up about receiving the letter late?
if they take the charges off, will this leave a mark against me?
Thanks

Thank you so much. I will try them tomorrow as their offices are closed.
I will let you know how it goes.
Thanks again:D0 -

1) Waiving of the £12 fee
2) Reporting of the transgression to the CRAs
3) Interest already charged
4) Interest yet to be charged
5) Reinstatement of any promotional rate (if applicable?)
Good luck (you'll need it to get success on all 4[5] points)!
If your payment doesn't land before the next statement is produced (which will be imminent) then you have a 'missed' payment not a 'late' payment. There's no difference as far as the CRAs are concerned but internally it could be a disaster for you with Nationwide.
If your life is so busy you didn't realise you hadn't had a statement for nigh on a month, or if you're generally prone to forgetfulness, then may I suggest a direct debit is the way to go. Asking to set this up during the 'pleading' phone call may aid your cause...it seems to do so with other providers according to reports on here.0 -
I usually just put a certain amount of money into the account if I have used my card as its not the main card I use.
I forgot I had used it for something big and this is where the problem has come from. otherwise I would have paid it off.
I think I was late once about 3 years ago but apart from that I tend to always pay them off on time....
This is just unfortunate...:(0 -
hi,
just thought I would post and say I have managed to get 3 out of the 4 points in the previous post.
I got my fee refunded and they have said no interest is on my account at the moment but if I do get any to call them and they can refund it.
When I asked about them reporting it, he didnt actually know what happens, so I guess I will take this hit as it was my fault for not being more careful.
Thank you very much for all of you advice!!0 -
Providing you have made the payment to bring the account up to date before the next bill is produced, then I would think it highly unlikely for them to report the account to the CRAs as being late.
However, that's not a cast iron guarantee and if you're worried about it then it may be worth checking your record(s) in a month or two. No point checking immediately as these things take time to update! My posts are my own opinions based on my experiences and info gathered from sites such as this.

yeah I paid extra this month just to make sure and the guy I spoke to said that it was good that I did that. not much extra but enough to make sure no other charges are put on.
He did say that if I missed 2 payments in a row then they take that as bad.
heres hoping...0 -
You just know what I am going to say.....................a direct debit would have avoided this, just as checking the statement online would have.0

yeah I knew someone would say that. I usually do check online, but sometimes I do need the bill to remind me.
Anyway I have put the date down in my diary so I know when the bill is due so I can check...0
