Capital one - card at 'risk' - replaced, anyone else?

Options
Got a letter yesterday saying their "active fraud monitoring" has identified a number of cards that may be at risk and they have issued me a replacement card which was in the next letter on the pile.

Only expiry date and security code have changed.

I don't use the card that much and not paid anyone I would suspect of being dodgy other than a few petrol stations which seem to be targets.

Anyone else had the same?

I wonder if you have used your card somewhere (a garage) where they have had other card users use their card and then get fraudulent transactions?
    I think....
  • It happened with my cap1 card month ago, no dodgy transactions showed up. I never used that card in a garage either. Cap1 would not tell me exact details of why they were replacing the card even when I pushed. I suspect it was some company that noticed they had been hacked and informed the mastercard of all stored cards on their site.

I have to say that Cap 1 are extremely proactive with fraud. I've often had phone calls from their fraud prevention dept asking if I've spent some money on a site etc. So far the response is always 'Yes it was me' and they've thanked me for my time and wished me well.

I guess I have an erratic spending pattern.

  • I had mines replaced a few months back. Also had a few of the calls to check it was me using the card - no declines thank god.

I got my letter on Saturday.

I think its odd that they dont provide a little more information as to what the possible risk is that they have identified.
When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.

Well I'm in Hampshire so I doubt we shared any petrol stations.

My and your replacement may not have been triggered by the same problem of course.

I posted because I wondered if it was a widespread thing, seems not.

No I very much doubt it and that wasnt the point I was making.

I was just hightlighting that I was in a similar position.
