Looking to replace our old camcorder

We have one of these old Sony camcorders dating from 1998(ish) and its about time to update it to something more modern, what do you all recommend, bearing in mind its for the elderly parents to use you needs to be relatively simple

Presumably its cassette based so perhaps one of the latest cassette based ones second-hand from eBay or otherwise a Panasonic HD camcorder which is quite agile and SD-card based

I've always found the tape camcorders to be the best and easiest to edit (in AVI). I don't like these HD ones.

Like you I had an old Sony, trusty and reliable but after 10 years in went beyond repair. So now I've bought a refurb from the Argos Outlet on ebay with free delivery:

    SONY MINIDV HANDYCAM HC51 CAMCORDER REFURB DEAL (350430675009) 1 x £159.99

It hasn't come yet but I'll let you know if there's any probs.

    Check out kodak Zi8 http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002J9I3HM/ref=pd_luc_mri?ie=UTF8&m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

You need an sd card as well, under £10 for 8GB. These take reasonable stills as well , doesn't sound a big deal but very useful.
Thing is, these are so very convenient to use that you do use them far more than a clunky camcorder.
    I've got a mino hd and zx1 so can't really justify getting one of these . . . .!!
Not so good in lower light ...but I paid £500 for an ordinary 8mm camcorder over 20 years ago so forgive these pocket cams a bit.
