The applicable amount is the base from which HB is tapered and will increase if the family size increases.
The applicable amount is the rate for a 2 bed place if you are a couple with 1 child or a couple with 2 children both under the age of 10.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. No, that's the LHA rate. The applicable amount is the amount that the government deems that a person, couple or family unit should have to live on per week before their entitlement to HB/CTB starts to be reduced. In this case it would consist of the personal allowance for a couple (102.95) plus the allowance for two children (57.57 for each child, once the baby is born) and the family premium of 17.40. No baby premium after April 11.0 -

The "applicable amount" is the base from which HB is tapered, it represents what you need to live on before housing expenses. It has NOTHING to do with the number of rooms you are entitled to claim for.

Sure start maternity grant is still available, but from april it only counts for the first child. Second and subsequent pregnancy's don't qualify for the sure start maternity grant anymore. (unless you are 29 weeks before april when they make the changes)
After scouring the web for more info on this change, i have only come across vaugue info about it being restricted to the first child only from April.
There doesn't seem to be much out there about exact weeks pregnant/by exact dates etc.. (Whereas with the Health in Pregnancy Grant, it clearly states you had to have been 25 weeks pregnant by the 1st Jan 2011 to still claim).
Just wondered if you knew where i might be able to access more precise info on the grant changes (as if i could just scrape in to claim it, £500 would make a big difference to all of us!)
