Ok so its not untill yesterday that Id ever heard of one these. Its totally new to me.
1 From my limited research I gather they are a box which plugs into your telephone line?
2 You then set it up re-route calls to different providers so you can have cheaper calls? Such as 18185 for your cheaper daytime calls and mobile calls.
3 Is 18185 not really the only one worth dialling for the above reason?
4 Im a bit miffed as to the reason why you would BUY one. Is it not just cheaper to dial the 18185. Are they not false economy when your meant to be saving money?
5 Are there other reasons or advantages of these boxes.
Thanks for any replies (taking into consideration Id never heard of them till yesterday)

They're not available to buy any longer anyway but the reason to buy one was to automatically route all calls over the most cost-effective carrier at all times without the telephone user having to make the choice.
If you take a look at Kevin Lawry's spreadsheet, you'll get the general idea.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
