kids away! Any spa breaks recommended this w/e?

My sister has surprisingly offered to look after my two kids this weekend (21st to 23rd Jan) and would really love to treat myself and hubby to a spa break staying for a couple of nights - haven't been away together (alone) for over 2 years!

Does anyone have any suggestions that won't break the bank - I looked on the lastminute.com offers but they don't seem great offers and not much choice. Would prefer somewhere in East Anglia but could make it to London.

Any help gratefully received!. Thanks :)

  • Well the last place I went to for a pampering spa day 2 years ago was Chewton Glen's spa place BUT that was for our 10th Wedding Anniversary (we haven't been able to afford to celebrate anniversaries for a few years due to finances, so was a massive treat, and I didn't organise it). It's in Hampshire, we rented a car from London for the weekend and hubby drove us down. Not sure it meets the criteria of "won't break the bank" though. Doing a bit of online searching shows me that there are a few spa DAYS in the south east at country hotels which are around the £85 - £100 mark - a bit more reasonable! But not a weekend break.

Sorry I don't have something to recommend that meets all the criteria, maybe someone else will be along shortly :)

  • Thanks Alison, for your suggestion I'll take a look. I know how expensive spas can be and they can be soo hit and miss so this is an extra special treat that I'd like to to get right. I've been searching online but there are so many vague descriptions with many offering only three night stay or one night stays - I guess the spa business hasn't been affected by the recession as much as I would have thought!

Anyone else got any thoughts? :)
  • What about a spa break at centerparcs. I dont know how much a break will cost but me and hubby were on holiday last year and went to the Aqua Sana spa and it was great.

I completely understand what you mean, if you're gettinga break away with the husband you don't want to risk not actually liking the place where you end up :rotfl:TBH even though the place i mentioned is expensive, it was in a league of its own, and i've been bugging my hubby to go back there every birthday, valentines and christmas since we went :j

Some of Heth's suggestions are quite good - at least if you take the websites on face value - I even spot some free night deals on there? Although I don't know if you fancy trying somewhere unknown for a hundred quid difference compared to this spa offer - I suppose it depends on how much you like to risk things and how much the £100 - £150 matters to you. (To me, quite a lot right now :p)
Actually, I'm sure a colleague has been to Thoresby Hall outside Nottingham before, I remember her talking about it during the summer (in a good way). I see on Last Minute they have a £169 deal on? It's valid from 19th January (so this weekend would be included).

Oh dear, I should stop looking through spa break listings, my husband will be sick of hearing about them! :) Can you tell I want to go on one again!!

  • Thank you so much for all your helpful replies and links. I've looked at them and am very impressed but I haven't got a fortune to spend so have opted for a bit of a DIY option and booked a quirky hotel in Norwich (http://www.byappointmentnorwich.co.uk/) and individual treatments with http://www.thaiwellbeing.com/ which works out at such great value for money, we'll get a meal at a local restaurant and may be see a movie.

A little extra work I guess but the prices charged at the spas are high which is fine if you can afford it but it seems you're paying a premium to have the facilities of pool etc which I get bored of after a while and there are always other people around. And those spas that are having offers only give one treatment. I'll let you know how I get on!

Thanks again - something to look forward to! :D

easypeezy- thanks very much for the link to the Thai massage in Norwich - I have been looking for a proper Thai massage place within a couple of hours of us - please could you pm me and let me know how it was so I can book up and stay at a Premier Inn nearby for a nice weekend away.
I have actually got a Premier Inn booked for this Saturday down in Christchurch, Dorset which I booked so that we could go to Senspa for a Thai massage but it was coming out very expensive for the massage and meal (and petrol) so I am grateful to you for your info!
