Hello everyone . Welcome to the weekly spend challenge. This challenge is open to anybody, no matter what financial place they are in.

On this thread please post an amount of money you wish to stay below within the week (Sunday to end of working day on Friday). This can be pennies or thousands it depends on the individual. Then next Saturday report back and pledge for the following week. The challenge runs from Sunday to Friday so we don't include Saturdays but feel free to change the rules to suit you and include Saturdays or start on a different day.

Feel free to update this thread with daily spends if that keeps you on track. We colour code the results as below:

Green - within budget
Red - overbudget
Purple - zero spend
Yellow - made money over the week

This is a little bit of fun but for many it highlights the fact that maybe that magazine/chocolate bar isn't needed. Hopefully your spending habits can be changed forever.

Moozie was the founder of this challenge and here is a quote taken from her:

The challenge is about incidental spending and not for stuff that should be budgeted elsewhere such as bills, groceries, debt repayment etc but you decide what to include at the end - this is about changing your habits and improving your recording of your spends more than anything else. Have a great week everyone and keep it low!!! Moozie x

Good luck everyone.

  • Congratulations to all the greens and double well done to the yellows. Commiserations to the reds but today is a new week so good luck.

I am declaring green for last week up to Wednesday as I have been away and only just got back. I love holidays but hate rejoining the real world:o

Still a little while until payday so I am going for £30 for the whole week.

Let me know any other results and pledges and I will add you to the list.

Good luck everyone and happy budgeteering.

  • I have already spent £8 of my £10. I went to a charity event and spent £3 on tea and cake and £5 as a donation. I will have to keep a tight reign on the rest of the week.

At least you now have the satisfaction of knowing that you have helped someone else out with the £5.00 donation. And some times tea and cake just has to be done!

I have a bit of a dilema, not sure whether to include £0.95 I spent today on cup of tea. Did a car boot sale with my DIL to raise some funds towards repairing her car (they were unfortunately ripped off by someone who sold them a car that had been in a bad accident but covered it up, i think they call them a cut and shut). It needs extensive repairs and they saved really hard to buy it. Hence the car boot sale. Anyway I put in lots of unwanted jewellery and other things and bought a cup of tea with the proceeds. We made approx £100.00 plus some change. Should I include the 0.95p or not? Too close to call for me?

Many thanks, if not included i am having another NSD which is 8/10 for me and 2 in a row. But will wait to hear the jury's verdict before claiming a NSD.

    Many thanks Dolly x ;)

Dollybeads I think that the 95p shouldnt be counted, you have made money and for someone else too so I think that a 95p cup of tea is a well deserved spend, and after all if you want to be pernickety about it, the 95p actually came out of her money so you didnt spend any of yours!
