Gas Meter Readings

I am currently in dispute with Scottish Hydro over my Gas Bill. They had misrecorded the sort of Gas meter I have and have now recalculated all my bills for the past three years and want me to pay the extra. My position is that since they haven't read the meter in three years it's their fault and I don't think I should have to pay. They say that they did come to read the meter but couldn't gain access. I don't believe them. I believe they sent someone to put a card through my door but I don't believe they attempted to read the meter at all. I have had these cards put through my door before when I have been in. Does anyone else have any experience of this?

Yes I tell the company to come and read the meter or I will take them to court, and to advise of a date/time they wish to visit .
You have to pay for the energy you have used, and whilst they may not be able to prove exactly what you have used, you may not be able to prove exactly what you have used either, 3yrs is a long time, and readings can be submitted by yourself by many ways.

I have submitted meter readings and paid the bills every quarter. The dispute arises because after being in the house for 3 years my 4-dial meter went round to zero. I submitted the meter reading as usual and got a very strange bill in reply. Upon telephoning the company they told me that they thought I had a 5-dial meter. They have subsequently recalculated all my bills based on a different formula. I think if they had come to read the meter they would have seen the meter and made ammendments to their records earlier.
