Do I have* to stay in the hotel of a package holiday? Will there be a fee if we don't

I have seen a package holiday which fits my dates perfectly, and is cheaper than i can find the flights alone. It is through teletext and is 14 nights from 24th April until the 6th of May.
The thing is the hotel is room only and although it looks OK, I have the luxury of using some RCI points to book a flat type accommodation which would give us the chance of saving money on food.
would i get charged, or worse still stopped going on the return flight should i just not turn up to the hotel?

I wouldn't just not turn up. At least advise the hotel you won't be using the room. If you just don't turn up, they may tell your tour operator and they may in turn cancel or re sell your return flight, thinking you are a no show.

I did a similar thing a few years ago, I booked a package holiday to Cyprus as it was cheaper than buying flights only and included transfers. I travelled on the transfer bus to the hotel, checked in but never stayed there.
On the way home I returned to the hotel to check out and catch the transfer bus back to the airport.
No problems.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End

this is half of what i am thinkingDoshwaster wrote: »I don't see why you would. The hotel will still be getting paid so I don't see why they would care.
then this is the other half. but then they would know that i am there as i would have gotten the flight out.I wouldn't just not turn up. At least advise the hotel you won't be using the room. I am not sure if i would want the hassel of checking in and then out again if not staying there. I suppose it comes down to money.Ms_Chocaholic wrote: »I did a similar thing a few years ago, I booked a package holiday to Cyprus as it was cheaper than buying flights only and included transfers. you would have to call them at least -otherwise there will be a delay for other holiday makers at airport waiting for you to turn up for your transfer etc, it will be a bit odd if a passanger gets on the plane and goes awol, im sure someone would notice you had gone?
I do see why you want to do it though-cyprus as pointed out can be is cheaper as a package so its undestandable you want the cheapest option.
let us know if you do do it and what happens.***MSE...My.Special.Escape***0 -
Hi there,
I did this last year. I did not choose the transfer option but did check into my hotel in case someone noticed that I was missing and it caused problems for anyone. I took a taxi to the hotel and just told the people on reception that I doubted that I would be using the room at all and then took a taxi back to the airport for the return flight as well. No problem whatsoever and a cheaper flight achieved!:j0 -

The only thing I'd warn you is that if there are any changes to your return flight while you are out there, the primary place for contacting you/leaving a message will be at the hotel - where you are not.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

Thats true. I may try and find some flights for about the same money. If i upset you don't stress, never forget that god aint finished with me yet.0 -
We always do exactly this - it's the best way to pick up great flight deals if we take a late/early break at either end of the season. It's only polite to tell them you won't be using the transfer, if you're not, so the bus doesn't have to wait for you. I've done it both ways - sometimes using the accommodation for a night or two and then moving on, sometimes just using the transfer and the accommodation for the first night due to location/arrival times, sometimes just picking a car up at the airport and going straight on to our own accommodation. I've only ever had one rep question it - I simply explained it wasn't a prison, they surely weren't intending to force me to stay there, and nothing further was said. Obviously, they'd like you stay stay in situ, especially as the price they sell the rooms at can be on a very tight margin indeed, and they hope to boost profits from bar-poolside sales, trips etc. That doesn't mean you have to, though.Reason for edit?
