Edit - starting to think there are quite a few on eBay!
I've used those adapter leads with no problems, but you still need a power supply.
However, I did have a lead/power supply kit. I didn't find the supplied power supply to be very good, it packed up after a few hours work.
You could use the bare lead and use a spare molex plug in your tower as a temporary supply, just to retrieve your data.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
The one the op linked to comes with a power supply if you read it. There are cheaper similiar interfaces on Ebay. Alternatively buy a cheap hard drive enclosure with a power supply on Ebay, fit the drive, once you get your data off reformat it blank and keep it as a handy backup drive.
If its a one off and the drive is really too small to be useful I would just hook it up inside my PC with and IDE cable and read it.0 -
If I can't borrow one I'll be buying this0

I bought 1 of them once and it messed up the pc, it was possibly due to me not doing it right but havent used it since as im worried about it messing things up again0

I also have one of those and it's always done the job. However make sure that the UK kettle lead is included (it wasn't on mine, though it is shown in the photo). But most of us have a spare sitting around, so not really an issue. No free lunch, and no free laptop

you just need an IDE / SATA converter board and you can plug it into your PC internally, should cost £3 max.
Make sure you get one set for the right direction (ie IDE drive into SATA socket and not the other way round)0 -
