Probably a router would do it?

Agree, router is best tool for the job. Alternative would be a circular saw - cut two parallel grooves and chisel out the waste inbetween. Either way you will need a good long straight guide for an accurate result.

what is the channel for? can you find another way of doing it?
chasing out the floor will weaken it significantly. Certainly, don't go too deep.

you cant cut into a blind alley with a jigsaw. you need clear air/space behind the material.
a circular saw is the answer. set for the correct depth.
a sharp wood chisel will finish it off.
    Get some gorm.

As mentioned a router is your best bet as you won't have to chisel any wood out after using a circular saw, I baby in my tool collection ;o)))))

What are you cutting a channel in a wooden floor for?

Is it for your speaker cable?

    Rough!

Why not just get an electrician or AV installer in. It would work out cheaper to have the system installed properly by the time you have bought plant, set aside money to replace the flooring when you come to sell / hand the place back to landlord/ LA.

BADA Dealers will have details of electrical contractors who do AV and AV installers.

    Thankyou for all the replys,
its not for the speaker cables, had that all fitted while floor fitted.

i need to cut out a small groove at the door way, to fit a door bar across, the floor is sinking in at that spot only " has to be a small dip at that spot" and i need to put something underneath to surport it and the put the door bar across to cover it.
the person i got to to the job wont come back to correct the problem so i had another floor installer to look at it and its what he recomended
