Considerations for First Home Ownership?

Hi all!
Background info: Currently amassing deposit as a FTB - trying to learn the home ownership ropes as much as possible in preparation!
Thought I'd start off a thread for those FTB's that would like to benefit from the knowledge and experiences of those who have already gone through this all.
This is not a thread about the buying process but rather how to get going in your new home, what you should be aware of, pre-moving considerations (insurances, taxes, notifications etc.), community introduction suggestions, remembrances for what you may have forgotten (old billing addresses, telephone numbers etc.) or anything that can be generally overlooked.
As financially astute as I am, admit to being not very practical hence would be of real interest to have some knowledge/experiences/links posted.

Get all your kitchen utensils and accessories from Ikea
Don't waste money on chipboard/MDF furniture, scout the sale rooms and buy solidly made stuff.
Get the house sorted and leave the garden for a year to see what comes up
Get any work done in the 1st year, after that you'll just 'live with it' forever0 -
Furnish the house throughout initally with free / cheap secondhand furniture. Then go through room by room and redecorate/refurnish with new good quality stuff that suits you as and when you've saved up enough to afford it. Don't get carried away "doing it up" to your taste and end up buying it all on credit in the first few weeks.0

But mow the lawn and trim the hedges.
See when the neighbour with the best garden does theirs.0
