Clamping boss's £4m payout bid from Government after claiming new anti-cowboy rules will ruin his business

The founder of Britain’s biggest wheel-clamping firm has caused outrage by demanding up to £4 million compensation from the Government, claiming proposed legislation will harm his business.
Trevor Whitehouse, who charges motorists £80 to release their cars, says he will suffer financially when clamping and towing on private land are banned later this year.
His legal advisers have written to law officers in the Treasury Solicitor’s Department, setting out the details of his claim.
The new law follows a series of incidents in which rogue clampers trapped drivers and forced them to pay hundreds of pounds in fines. Unlike on-street parking penalties, which can be challenged, there is no independent appeals process covering privately owned land.
Mr Whitehouse, whose company is registered in the British Virgin Islands tax haven, claims to immobilise 1,000 vehicles a month.
He said: ‘We observe the rules but we are being penalised for the actions of a bunch of cowboys who have ruined the industry’s reputation.
‘I feel very bitter that we are being threatened in this way. It is reasonable to seek compensation for the losses I will suffer.’
But Paul Watters of the AA said: ‘Wheel clampers have made fortunes from vulnerable victims over the past 20 years. Motorists have no comeback against these people.
'Perhaps car owners should launch a counter-claim against the clampers, demanding the money back they have been forced to pay in extortionate fines.’

Entirely predictable from someone who knows his gravy train is about to come off the rails. I think the government have already said "tough" previously.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Tough!
My thoughts exactly, the government is not there to provide a living for someone like this!Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?0 -

Lets hope he does go all the way and his little nest egg is wiped out. I cant see many believing his "fair" £80 fee was justified and it was only the cowboys who spoil it.
Theres a nice email here to the BPA from this goon! http://www.myexpense.org/0 -
Why should the government pay anything to a company that is registered in the Virgin Islands to avoid british taxes etc.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

I wonder how many millions in tax he should have paid if the company had been registered in the UK?What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -
I'm certain that Trev will find life very hard when clamping is eventually banned but then he will just retire to his Spanish villa and live out his days on the back of all of those motorists he has clamped safe in the knowledge that he did nothing wrong. Legally. My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016).

For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com0 -

Just where did I place my violin?
I nearly shed a tear at the thought of poor destitute Mr Whitehouse. Mrs Whitehouse must be absolutely distraught at the thought of only being able to afford a hairdressers visit every other day rather than daily. And poor Mr Whitehouse - he has expenses don'tcha know. He'll only be able to have 6 holidays a year instead of 12. Never mind Mr W., we're all in this together!
:D The man without a signature.0 -
At least he will get some money from the scrap metal people for all his clamps0
