O2 Connection Manager

I have an unlocked branded O2 Huawei E160 dongle and have been trying out a couple of different sims in it to see which signal is the strongest in different areas.
When O2 Connection Manager searches for networks it does not find all of them. In fact in some areas it shows no networks available.
For instance it does not find the 3 signal unless I put a 3 sim in the dongle. It also seems strange that I do not have manually put in any settings to get a connection.
Is there any better software to use with the E160 and is it easy to install?

Hmmmm.... I'm probably being dumb here, cos I'm no 3G expert....
but just because the dongle is unlocked, why would you expect it to perform roaming? Unlocking it would enable it to be used with different network operators, but not simultaneously. So a vodafone SIM would only connect to vodafone 3G, etc.
But... what do I know. Check my signature to verify my credentials in this subject.Of course, I may just be talking b****cks!0 -
Thanks for your reply but O2 Connection Manager does find different network operators but only in certain areas.
I thought changing the software might help but perhaps I am the one thats talking b****cks!0 -
An unlocked dongle as Wonka states only allows you to use any sim on it, it wont allow you to access another companys network using a sim not issued by them ie vodafone will only connect to vodafone, o2 to o2 but not o2 sim to vodafone network.0

Install this on it E160 dashboard:
http://www.dc-unlocker.com/downloads/Huawei/Huawei_E160
It's free, will unbrand and install Huawei's generic connection manager Mobile Partner so you can use it on all networks, you will need to manually input the APN and user name and pasword for each network only once though. I have done it to several all work fine.0 -
Many thanks to Inner Zone for DC Unlocker/ Mobile Partner link.
I was a little unsure about installing it at first but since I did I have found Mobile Partner much easier to use than Connection Manager. Being able to keep track of downloaded data is a real help with different PAYG providers.
Can someone tell me what the data card does on these dongles? I can work out what the software and the providers simcard does but what is the data card for?0 -
If you mean the Micro SD card slot, you can put an Micro SD card in it and use the dongle as a USB memory stick.0

Before loading Mobile Partner, DC Unlocker said it would amend the data card.I just wondered what the data card did.0
