Price to sell my polo
Hi everyone.
On another thread I needed help and opinions of what might be wrong with my VW Polo.
Turned out the engine is in need of serious repair and a new cat and downpipe is needed for my exhaust.
The head gasket has blown and I think a water pump and a bottom end bearing is the cause of a knocking sound.
So basically i'm going to sell it and cut my losses.
I'm going to put it on autotrader but not sure at what its now worth. I would say without these problems it would be worth between £2000_2,500.
Taking into consideration a new engine is needed and I've been quoted £230 to fix the exhaust, how much am I likely to get? What price should I list it at?
a vw polo 1.4 s 53 plate.
Besides the major problems the car is in good condition with a few scratches, nothing major, has over 9 months mot, taxed until the end of march, recently had 4 new tyres and back brake pads and discs in the past 10 months.
I'm not being greedy but I need all the money I can get at the moment and don't want to give it away despite the problems it has.
Thanks for reading

Oh yeah, its done nearly 73k miles.0

I'd stick it on EBAY highlighting the faults and sell it sold as seen. You can put a reserve on it but this would have to be realistic given the problems.0

what car? have a calculator for the value of your car and you can include the mileage in that so you can get a rough idea of the value without the repair work and take it from there. Spares/Repairs cars do sell well on ebay, but please take caution when listing your car and do make a note of getting potential bidders to look at the car before making a bid,etc as when i sold my bora for spares, one guy really tried to do me over afterwards because he never looked at the car and sent someone else to pick it up (for me,it was a lesson learned!).0

Try comparing similar cars on Autotrader.
May be worth checking the value on webuyanycar too, as a guide0 -
£2450 is what 'what car?' is saying its worth in a private sale. I tried webuyanycar a few days a go and they said £2100 when I stated it was in poor condition. (technically it still runs)
So give or take it probably needs a £1000ish repair job(?) would a reserve of a £900-£1000 be fair?
It does have a long MOT and couple of months road tax.:)0 -
Depends how long you want to keep it whilst re-advertising it.
Shame whatcar do not actually buy the cars for that price, Lots on autotrader from dealers for around that
sort of money, Newer cars as well. 05 plate for 2495 couple of 04's for less.
As ever with ebay you never know, Some cars sold on there for silly money. Looks like you should be able to
buy from a dealer for full price then sell on ebay for 50% more than you paid???
Bit of shill bidding going on me thinks.
Put it as a non runner into webuyanycar because with a blown headgeasket and other issues thats what they knock
you down to if you did take it to them £760??Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
The quote is coming up as £1995 now i've changed it to a non runner, so not a great difference, but I know they'd halve that if I took it in.
Do you think £775 is the max I am likely to get then?
I guess I could list it on ebay, set a reserve at that price and take it from there.0 -
Hi. Just an update on my car. I put it on eBay last week and it ended on Friday, finishing at £1320. The buyers came today and evrything went fine.
It sold for more than I thought, but still disappointed it ended this way.0
