lab in heat

wonder if i can get some advice, i have a stunning black lab, she is now 3, this is her third heat x but this time round she is acting really weird.. she does not like going out at all, even out into garden for a diddle, she is going for hours without even wanting to go anywhere, when she finally does she wants you there with her, she does the bizo and runs back into house, she is also very cuddly and does not want to be left alone at all.. not that i mind that as i love having cuddles with her..
is this just because she is in heat x

also another question, her coat is very shiny, and in the sun light looks like a seal pup.. is this a sign of good health.. just something i always wondered x

thank you in advance x

    Get her spayed!

Shiny coat invariably means a healthy coat, therefore a healthy dog.

Sorry but who ever told you that is talking a right load of crap. Spaying her could well save her from getting pyometra which if not acted on quickly will kill, spaying her will also lessen her chances of getting mammary cancer. Personally I would never ever risk the life of any of my female dogs by not spaying them.
If you want another lab why not visit some of the rescue centres, I'm sure you would find one it just might take a wee while to find the right one.

i dont personally beileve that by giving her one litter of pups is that bad for her... and i did not think i would be personally attacked for asking a few questions.... A family friend told me that it is good for her.. I love my dog very much and she is a big part of this family, we would not want to risk her life. As for rescue centres, i think that is personal choice and we have always had our dogs from pups.. Thanks for the comments that have left me none the wiser to my original queston barr one nice person.. Bw the last time i ever post on this section due to rude and unhelpful comments..

Sorry I didn't mean to be rude :o.
A dog really doesn't need to have a litter, it won't be of any benefit to her at all, you would be better of talking to your vet about it than a friend unless the friend is a vet of course. Are you also in a position to take all or any of the pups back if the new owner no longer wants it no matter what age it is, there is also the problem that if the pregnancy doesn't go to plan it can cost an awful lot in vets fees. My dogs are also a big part of my family in fact my skin kids always comment on the fact that I love my fur kids more than I love them. I always get my dogs neutered, three years ago I adopted an 8 year old girl, I got her on the Sunday had her vet checked on the Monday and she was spayed on the Tuesday.

if you still want to go ahead and breed from her here's a couple of things you might want to read.

We've also got a black lab, she's also got a lovely shiny coat, everyone always comments on it, so must be good. When shes in season she is also like you have described yours to be, although not so bad going outside but loves the cuddles and gets scared of things that wouldnt normally bother her. This usually only lasts 2/3 weeks and as shes stops bleeding she gets more back to normal.
I know people mean well on here, but the OP didnt ask for advice about spaying, they asked for advice about what happens in heat etc, the reasons the dog is not spayed shouldnt really be up for discussion as its none of our business, its up to them, and when threads get sidetracked like this it does put newer people off, meaning to or not things dont always come across the way you want them to on a screen.

Oh grow up and get a thicker skin. Not one of the replies uyou have had were 'rude', not one of the replies you have had were 'not nice' and not one of the replies you have had were personally attacking you. They were helpful. You indicated problems with your dog when it was in season. The response was to spay, therefore elliminating its season and eliminating those proplems and other potential health issues.

Most of the replies were simply pointing out potential problems with breeding your lab.

The other point is that the RSPCA indicate there are approximately 8 million pet dogs in the UK. Assuming half are female, if owners all wanted to give their pets one litter, because someone said it was good for them, it would mean 24 million extra dogs each season (assuming 6 pups each).

Leave the breeding to professionals or those with working dogs.
