Under cabinet kitchen lighting.

I'm having a kitchen installed and just trying to finalise the details of the under cabinet lighting.
Ultimately the lights will be controlled from a wall mounted switch (as per the ceiling lights).
I'm thinking the best way to go is probably with some flourescent strip lights, but searching "kitchen lighting" they seem about the last thing to come up, so perhaps trends have changed. Instead I see a lot of round puck style or even triangular lights.
Has anyone installed a kitchen recently and what sort of under cabinet lights did you install?

You can definitely buy the tube style under-cabinet lights in Wickes.0

Fluorescent lights are better energy wise and give a better, more even, spread of light imo. We have a largish kitchen and three 20 watt (60 watt total) under cupboard fittings under three banks of wall units (1800mm - 1400mm - 1400mm) and they are more than adequate. Our ceiling also has 8 x 50watt (400 watt total) Halogen fittings which we rarely use now unless we really need some bright light as 60 watt usage much better than 400 watt
The small circular/tri-angular type tend to be Halogen and tend to give a narrower more focused beam of light, therefore you would need more and thus this would cost you more in electricity. LED's are another option (and use very little energy) but I'm not convinced that they have a comparable light output as yet as they are still relatively new technology in terms of delivering effective light output. Hope this helps.0 -
I put LED strips under my cabinets. Very bright and use next to nothing electricity wise.0
