Buyer didn't pay now wants the item......

Hi experts,

I sold something on ebay mid December and the buyer didn't pay so I filed an unpaid item dispute and got my fees back. The buyer has now been in touch to say they're ready to pay and will do but can I do anything about getting the unpaid item strike removed.

TBH I still have the item and would be happy to sell.

Any ideas?

  • Hi OP sellers did have the option to remove a strike however now sellers don't have that option any more so if you relist and sell to the buyer there is now no way you can remove the strike which may cause you problems later with feedback.
Before anybody says we still can remove strikes check your resolution center and see what options are available for closed non payment cases and you will see you only have one option to relist the item nothing else.
Why I say this will cause problems is if you sell to your buyer as your buyer has now found out most sellers will now not sell to anybody with 2 or more strikes so ebay has become somewhere they cannot buy anything from and when you cannot remove the strike after they have paid you they will probably find a reason to leave you negative feedback.

I had the same problem with a non-payer in December. As far as I know, in this situation there's no option for a seller to remove a strike now.

It's their own fault - if they bid in December and took 4 weeks to contact you!!

I'd just tell them you'll relist it as an auction - which mean they may or may not win it.

I would put them on my blocked buyers list as they probably do not really want the item they just want the strike removed.

Thanks. I have the item relisted as a BIN and told them once payment is made I'll see what I can do about removing the strike but you suggest there's no way to do it anymore. Oh well, maybe they'll live and learn! Or maybe they'll not pay for the item after all! Just thought I'd check as I knew someone on here would know.

    Thanks
  • Hi OP I must say you are braver than me I must admit I run a business on ebay so feedback is important to me but I also get quite a few messages from buyers like yours who suddenly realise that 2 strikes means most business and a lot of private sellers will not allow them to bid on their auctions or even use buy it now to buy items from them.
They then make up a story and ask if it is okay to buy the item as long as you remove the strike.
Reading between the lines the item is now not the issue it is just the fact that you gave them the dreaded second strike and they want it removed.
When you admit you cannot do this for them do not be surprised if the item develops a fault and they wish to return it for a refund after opening an item not as described case against you and then as a parting shot leave you negative feedback just for good measure.

They're 'ready to pay'?? Cripes thats kind of them!

I would block them and move on, and hope to sell to someone else.

If you are happy to sell, you've done the right thing.

I must say I admire their chutzpah.

However, let's hope someone else buys it.

Personally, after getting my fees refunded due to a non-paying bidder, I wouldn't have had anything more to do with them.

They've probably found that their non-paying antics have caught up with them and as a result, now they are blocked from buying something they desperately want. If they really wanted the OP's item, they would have paid for it first time around. I suspect they are just trying to get the OP to remove the block, leaving them free to carry on - without paying for the OP's item.

I am in the same boat. A buyer sent me a cheque (or say they did) begining of December. Nothing turned up so I thought they where having me on. So went through the non paying routine etc. A week ago they said what is this about non paying strikes etc. So I told them what the score was that having not received any payment and after sending umpteen reminder emails this is what has happened. They have now sent me another cheque by recorded delivery and still want the goods. How should I proceed as they know I have the new cheque as it was sent recorded. Help and advice would be appreciated on this thanks.

In the past I have told them that it is too late to accept a cheque and they will need to supply an envelope pre stamped if they want it returned, otherwise I will destroy it.

It's always funny how on some sites you see people saying how clever they are that they can get away without paying and no longer get a neg. Then suddenly they find that two strikes mean they have effectively banned themselves from ebay.
