Laptop screen flickering

Options
mrsbritishboys Lenovo laptop screen flickers intermittently, it seems to do it most of the time, and especially when you open or close the screen slightly

Any ideas on how to fix it?

The first thing I would do is to update the video drivers. You should be able to use the Lenovo update utility to find the correct one.
Also check the screen resolution is on the optimum, and look what the refresh rate is set to.
If it flickers during startup, before getting into Windows, then it could be a hardware problem.
  • I'd imagine if it's doing it when you move the screen itself then it's a problem with the ribbon cable, either at it's connections or along it's length from flexing. The only way to fix that is to open it up and make sure the connections are tight, and look for faults. Obviously I'd try the previous 'non-invasive' suggestions first. Is it an old laptop?

    Thanks people

its nearly 2 years old, so not real old, but no spring chicken in the laptop kingdom either

Will try davb's non invasive actions first, failing that, i'll dig out the angle grinder and open 'er up
  • If you fancy a bit of light reading (!) then stick 'lenovo laptop screen flickering' into google. Unfortunately it seems like quite a common problem.
