Which DVD/HDD recorder

Just want some general views on what would be a good DVD/HDD recorder, parents will buy one for Christmas and I have looked briefly at prices. Have seen on John Lewis.com Panasonic for about £250.00 This would be the price range, but with different makes around, though would prefer a brand name. If anyone could post their views on what's a good system, it would be appreciated.

I would make sure it has a Freeview tuner built in, although at the moment this does tend to up the price and cut down the choice.
Panasonic always seems to come out well in reviews, but does tend to be a bit pricier.Charlie0
