Delta Airlines Baggage Claim!!!!

Hi,

I was wondering if someone could offer me some advice on what i can do.

I travelled with Delta Airlines (biggest mistake of my life!!) from Heathrow to JFK on the 28th December. However when i got to New York my baggage did not arrive so i went to the Baggage office and reported this, they gave me a reference number and told me that my suitcase will be on the next flight and it will be with me the next day.

The next day i rang up and after being on hold for over an hour a lady informed me that my bag was still in Heathrow!!! She did inform me that i could buy necessities and they would reimburse me afterwards. The following day the same story i call up wait for eternity on hold just to be told my suitcase hadn't arrived.

By the 3rd day my bag had finally arrived and i was told it would be delivered to me within 6 hours. 6 hours had past and nothing. To cut a long story short after two days of my bag sitting at JFK airport and me continually calling them i was told my best bet was to go and collect my suitcase myself, which i did.

When i got back to England i filled in a compensation form and faxed it to their main office in Atlanta however i have yet to hear anything back from them. Worried about if i will get my claim through i decided to claim through my insurance. However they have asked for a letter confirming the delay of my suit case. I have been calling delta for 3 days now with no luck. They do not answer the phone at their office in Heathrow and the office in the US asks me to leave my telephone number but doesn's accept UK numbers!!!!!

Is there anything i can do? It looks like as well as ruining my holiday Delta will now leave me out of pocket.

Regards

Tom

  • Did you not get a PIR (Property Irregularity Report) filled in at Delta's baggage tracing office at JFK? A copy of that should suffice for your insurance.

Bear in mind that New York had a lot of weather-related problems around that time, so I guess Delta (and all other airlines there) will have a sizeable stack of claims to get through ...
