I've started receiving letters from LCS for a dual fuel bill dated 09/04/13 to 21/08/13. We purchased the property on August 22nd and I'd phoned up British Gas immediately to give them the new readings and my details.

It now looks like the old outstanding balance is being chased by LCS and they are sending letters on a weekly basis. Very annoying after speaking to BG!!!

I guess it's best to ignore them? Or should I pass these letters on to the estate agent that sold us the house as they should have the vendor's details? The property was vacant during this time (previously rented).

    Thanks

I have now received a letter titled '72 hour notice'.

'We will take the best course of action which will be a recommendation for court action or a personal visit by one of our field officers. If we do not hear from you within 72 hours then your account will be escalated.'

Should I ignore or should I try and speak to BG? BG had already messed up the new account opening!

Contact the creditor directly explaining their previous mistake and telling them what is now happening, apparently another mistake. Do not attempt to resolve this with the debt collectors they will not listen and only the creditor will be able to call them off. So save your breath.
  • I've just received a demand for payment from LCS for electricity used in the property before I became owner. Realter Estate Agents were using the property as a show house and haven't paid the final month bill to Scottish Power.

It's only for £31.18 and I'm so scared I will get a bad credit rating that I'm tempted just to pay. Or am I too late and now have a black mark on my credit history?

Any advise on what I should do?

Why would you pay £31.18 for something that you have no liability for? Write and explain just what you told us.

If you have anything on your credit file(check if you're worried) from this then demand it be removed and seek compensation. But I do not think LCS report, they are just a bullying organisation.

If you actually have a debt with E.On then you need to contact E.On asap to organise an affordable repayment plan. Ignoring it will make it worse.

Does the text say it's Eon and quote your old reference number?

Is Eon your only debt or are there others? Roughly how much do you owe in total?

Quick one having just read this thread.
I see a poster quoting the Bills and Exchange act 1882 as defence.

I'm afraid it's not :-( would that it was that easy, we would all simply default, wait until the debt was 'sold' and that would be that. But unfortunately the Law of Property act 1925 trumps the 1882 act and a debt can legally be transferred.

This was tested last year in full court, and was found to be valid.
