Is Amex still the best cashback credit card?

Recently received my statement through the post and on the cashback termsand conditions it now states that "no rebate payment will be made if, in the 12 months preceding your card Anniversary date, the amount of rebate earned totals less than £25." Last year it was £12 and I missed out because I earnt £11.57 which I subsequently lost. How much will I have to use my card to earn this cashback? Or is it worth changing to another card as it is not accepted at a lot of shops? Please help. Thank you

How much will I have to use my card to earn this cashback?
It's about £4500 I think.
(£3500 tier at 0.5%, then 1%, but remeber AMEX only do cashback on £s and not ps).Or is it worth changing to another card as it is not accepted at a lot of shops?
AMEX is great during the 5% promotional period, but if you are out of that you are probably on 0.5% and can get better cashback elsewhere.
I generally close mine down and then get a new one 6 months later at 5%.
I generally try to get one before a high spending period like Xmas to get the best of the 3 monhts promotional period.0 -
do you spend much on your card? and do you have a halifax current account? If so you could look at the relatively new Halifax Rewards Clarity Card, as they pay £5 cash back for each month you spend £300 a month on the card?MFW#105 - 2015 Overpaid £8095 / 2016 Overpaid £6983.24 / 2017 Overpaid £3583.12 / 2018 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2019 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2020 Overpaid £2583.12/ 2021 overpaid £1506.82 /2022 Overpaid £2975.28 / 2023 Overpaid £2677.30 / 2024 Overpaid £2173.61 Total OP since mortgage started in 2015 = £37,286.86 2025 MFW target £1700, payments to date at April 2025 - £1712.07..0

Go for Clarity, just spend up to £300 and you get £5. Based on this the cashback rate is 1.66% Anything over, look for a back up cashback credit card.0
