diagnostic will flag up codes if theres no propper curcuit to them so will only know the general area of where to look. a quick look at the wireing and conformation as to yes thats broke it needs a new wire/loom to that, then they should have called the OP to tell them as agreed upon. they could have sourced the price of the part added vat and labour and gave the OP the decision, if they went ahead with no permission then sorry their lack of communication is their fault. you could easily pay the same rate at a autoleky if you pay the £70 and give the diag report to him and say pug told me theres a wireing fault to this.
in my opinion pug should carry out the work, but more negotiating on the price. dont expect them to come down to the £70, but £300? bit excessive but thats a dealer for you. it wont save you money taking it away now, your gunna pay the £70 and another £50-60 for another garage to do the same £130 pay out in diagnosing the same thing! you may aswell let them do it to save you £50-60.0 -
pug have quite clearly spent more time investigating than originally agreed and as such cannot expect to be paid for that.
As a result of this they will just give you the bare minimum info of fault probably just the trouble code and not where the wiring fault is if you pay the originally agreed price and take elsewhere.
as said you will end up having to pay the same if you take elsewhere as they will charge for investigation aswell, try and negotiate with with the dealer see if a better price can be agreed as they have decided to spend time testing without speaking to you first.0
