currently download via amazon mp3 download website so itunes is not a must.
do not need it for videos or movies - just music.
need a fair bit of storage - over 20 gb is essential.

thanks!

    Sansa Clip+ 8gb with a 16Gb microSD.

It's a good player with Rockbox on it.

A while back, I compared the audio quality of various lossy formats and personally found that WMA format, particularly the variable bit-rate encoding, sounded best for a given file size.

I'm sure you wouldn't dream of illegally ripping your own CDs and putting them on your MP3 player... but if you did have a choice of audio formats and you care about sound quality, I'd try to use WMA (assuming that you agree that it sounds better!).

So... it might be an idea to look for an "MP3" player that supports WMA files - not all do.

Exactly what I've got. It's a great no-frills little player that sounds good and is really cheap compared to iThings if you don't need touchscreens and all the trimmings. Plays lossless FLAC format, plus the main lossy ones including WMA too.

    Isn't 20GB of mp3s @ 4MB per track roughly 25x10 (tracks per GB) X 20 SONGS = 5000
Sounds pointless with battery life of ???

It's just an average player like so many others without Rockbox.

Hey - thanks. I've gotta try that now!

Only worry is that if I do and it doesn't work out there's probably no way of going back... Need to do some research on that, and what media player works best with it. I'm currently using Rythmbox, but that doesn't seem to support multiple playlists with the standard Clip+ firmware.

You install Rockbox with the original firmware so it's dual-boot and easy to switch, although most, having tried it out, never want to go back.
