Advice needed on selling my car.

Hi,

I'm going to go car free for a while to see how that works out. I've never sold a car before so I'm looking for some advice! The car in question is:

1999 Volvo S80 T6 SE, 136,000 miles, 3 months MOT left & 5 months Tax. 8 owners. Genuinely runs very well tho & no issues in the 8 months I've had it.

Now the car has a few small problems:
Passenger window won't go up and down properly - best to leave it shut.
Car tracks slightly to the left on the motorway (I only replaced one front tyre, could this be why? Maybe it's wheel alignment? I'm no expert :( ).
Seems to be missing the front fog lights (only noticed after 3 weeks of owning the car!).
Probably needs a service soon (has stamps in the service book, don't know if this counts as 'full service history').

Now webuyanycar is offering £595.. which seems a little low to me and they will probably try and knock more off. I've seen good examples go on ebay for £1500 but in retrospect I paid too much for it (£2,200) 8 months ago.

Where I'm looking for advice is:
1) Should I have the problems fixed and car MOT'd before I sell? I'm worried this will cost me a lot. I could probably fix the window myself but I reckon MOT could throw up tyres that need replacing soon and other unknowns.
2) Should I go with ebay auction or perhaps autotrader?

1stly there is still a recession on, and big thirsty car with ever increasing fuel costs are not going to be the attractive purchase for many, yes renew the mot prior to sale.
You could try the local paper , but autotrader is a good start, ebay I find is a place where folk want everything for nothing.
    Good luck.

Just the type of car everyone wants now petrol is hitting £1.30 a litre.

Its a bit of a lemon now, Short MOT will affect its value, 8 owners?

Full service history will only apply if every service has been done on or before the mileage stated in
the handbook. No gaps or missing services. But a garage will stamp the service book after changing the oil
so a service history needs more paperwork really.
I would want receipts for money spent.

I received a printout of the lease companies bills for my car when i bought it.

Sell it privately, Webuyanycar has under valued your car by about £350,put it on autotrader for £895 job done...

OK thanks. I've decided to put it on Autotrader in a couple of weeks AS-IS with warts n all. Cashflow sucks right now. Going to advertise for £895 and would go down to £700ish.. at least it's better than webuyanycar!

    I have a volvo and use volvoforums.org.uk

Join and go to the s80 board, lots of good advice there.
They have a sales section for free, so a genuine volvo fan may want it.
