Help with Barclaycard PPI please

I have had a 2 Barclaycards since 1995 both with PPI I havent used the cards for years and I owe £1000 on 1 and £1200 on the other.I am now retired and looking at my finances and have cancelled the PPI .Does anyone think I have a chance of geting any of this back,when I cancelled the PPI the man at Barclaycard advised me to contact them to try and claim back and gave me their address!!!I think when I took the cards out I filed a form out in a magazine and the cards where duly sent I didnt speak to anyone ,but must have ticked a box for PPI.I was in full time work then and had a good sckness payout .Thanks
