I received one of these for Christmas, went to put it into sleep mode tonight and the screens "halfed" weird lines running up and down, half the picture from sleep mode half my home screen.
Read some horror reviews about sending stuff back, do you think Amazon will replace this?
I've barely used it and took excellent care of it so god only knows why this has happened

amazon have a good reputation for accepting back used/faulty items
i once had to return something and they gave me 45 days to get it back to them and paid for courier.0 -
Amazon tend to be superb for returns in my experience, especially if it's either an Amazon only item, or in the first few months of purchase from them.0

The support from the Kindle team at Amazon is brilliant in my opinion. My husband's kindle kept locking up and after doing some research on the net we tried it without the official non-lit cover he had bought, it stopped locking up all the time so he rang Amazon to explain what had been going on. They immediately offered him a full refund for the cover (this was about 4 months after he'd bought it) and a voucher for £20 so he could buy the lit version of the cover at no extra cost to himself. There does appear to be a recurrent problem with these covers so if you have the official nonlit leather cover try taking that off and see if it makes a difference to yours.
Yes I know it sounds silly that a cover could cause such problems but these covers connect to the Kindle by fixing on with 2 plastic hooks that go into the side of the Kindle. The lit version does the same with metal hooks which then carry the power to the light. It's been suggested that the plastic hooks may well cause a short circuit and cause the Kindle to lock up. I don't understand the technical stuff but DH's one hasn't locked up once since the cover was removed and it was doing it several times a day before.
Oh and we know someone that has had 3 replacement Kindles from Amazon until he changed the cover so they're very good at replacing them even if it's not a cover problem0
