Why so long to log off?

Lately it is taking ages to log out of one user.
I have a resonable PC:
Dell 5150
Pentium 4
3.2 Ghz
1 GB RAM
Any ideas what is going on or what I can do to see what is happening?

Long log off time can be due to the OS being bloated with unnecessary temp files, lots of webpages in the cache, spyware, adware, programs running in memory which it needs to close down and clear out. When you first boot your machine without running any other programs you could check the task manager to see how many processes are running. Then after you've used it like normal, check again and you may find the list has significantly increased (especially if programs haven't exited properly earlier). The user profile could be very large and it can take time for the OS to update the profile when logging off (saving current user settings) - Control Panel/User Accounts.
First things are always run a spyware, adware removal program (spybot and adaware). Clear out internet history in whatever browser you are using. Clear out any files in the Temp Folder under windows. Defrag. Clear out any files from my docs that you don't need.

Thanks CD. I often run ccleaner on my profile but never do on my wee girls. Could that be the problem?0
