Car Insurance - Insure The Box

My car insurance is due for renewal and I am thinking of adding my 18 year old daughter as a named driver. As expected, most of the quotes have been very high, except for one from a company called Insure the Box. Apparently they fit a box to your car that records the mileage? and the quoted price was for a maximum of 6000 miles. Has anyone heard of or used Insure the Box? Any info gratefully received.

  • Got insurance for my daughters Fiesta in August with them, saved £800 on the next best quote which made me a bit suspicious but its been fine they seem a good company.Their fitter came out a week after we took out the policy and fitted the box, very professional and smart took about an hour and it counts miles and monitors driving style and rewards with bonus miles which she has already managed to get with sensible driving.Policy based on 6000 miles which is a drawback but at least shes not a taxi for her friends as she cant afford to waste her miles.made no claims so cant comment on that part.
  • My son uses insurethebox - no claims yet, but in other respects a happy experience and certainly well priced. Their capital has an A (excellent) security rating.

I'm not a parent, but I reckon if they know this monitors their "driving style" and has a direct impact on their pocket then that has to seen as a postitive thing by parents.

Well, as andyo is a parent, should be on for loads of bonus miles then.

So how would the black box know who was driving? My sons car is insured with him as the main driver and both his parents as named drivers. We both sometimes drive his car, so will the box detect different driving styles?

Got fitted with the tracker 5th Jan.
    Policy started 8th Jan.
Motor Insurance Database shows me as insured.

Other than that, who knows what will happen if I need to claim.

I wish they would charge by the mile. I do 4,000 miles a year, so I should pay 2/3 of 6,000 miles.

Here's hoping mikey72, only time will tell - if I decide to go for them.

Had a look, as you suggested, but couldn't see anything relating to this other than ticking the right boxes. Who do they sell your data to?
  • Insured in August with them, put down both my mobile number and my daughters as contact details, neither of us have had any double glazing specialists or 300%apr loan companies calling?
Alot of people are worried about data,i would be too if they or anyone was giving away my credit card info but is it really so awful to get the odd call asking if your loft needs insulation?

Perhaps being single im lonely and need a life! "No Thanks" takes 5 secs.I saved £800 obviously being my daughters life long sponsor so even if i did get the odd call i dont think it would bother me too much, the money saved will more than make up for it.Surely there are FSA rules on data? I presume all insurance companies need to be FSA regulated?
