    Prevention (as in not downloading/installing crap) is better than the cure (try to remove it later).

    While I'm in no doubt that spybot will miss the odd thing (on some people's infested computers) it is sufficient for my needs because I never install/download from untrusted sources.

    I'm studying computing at uni btw.

    I was speaking from 13 years experience as an IT manager, I have visited projects where I have run three or four programs each finding stuff the other didn't and still had to remove certain bits of malware manually. You are right though, prevention is far better than cure.

    for anti spyware there is now a prog called "Windows defender"

    free download from "tucows" or similar, i am running it alongside avg, ad-aware and apybot and it found stuff that the rest had left behind
