Retiring to Malta

You will notice however that most of the moans and groans came from people who had not retired there, despite your asking for advice from people who had.
Thanks scotsbob,
I'm sure the posts were well intentioned, they were received as so anyway.
Have you any Malta experience? Or maybe I'm reading too much into your post?0 -
you would get general advice on our Living Abroad thread: it's long, and a bit chatty. I know they would all say go at different times of year and for an extended rental before you commit. and remember the exchange rate fluctuates: you can be in serious trouble if you're depending on UK income which plummets in value!
the other thing they would say is language: maybe not an issue in Malta? and I'd say the same things as apply to moving on retirement in the UK: you're NOT going to get any younger / fitter, you MAY have to give up your driving license, so do you want to live at the top of a hill in the middle of nowhere with no public transport and the nearest services a 3 mile hike away?Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

Malta..well they say you either love it or hate it.
After a few years there i think you would go stir crazy.
I agree - living on the Isle of Wight was bad enough!0 -
We each have different priorities. Great to visit Malta, but I would not wish to live on a small island. I prefer to live on the mainland with access to good roads rail boat and plane links for my travels.
I would be a bit concerned that the greek / cypriot dispute may cause more problems in the future."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi
