Car Insurance

I'm hoping that someone can help me as I've tried searching to no avail. We are currently in the process of buying my Dad's car for DS as my Dad had his licence revoked due to ill health. The car is currently insured in his name until the middle of next month, with myself and DH on as named drivers. Does he need to cancel this insurance before DS can insure it in his own name with myself and/or DH as named drivers? For the tiny amount of money he is going to get back from his insurers my Dad isn't bothered about claiming a refund.

DS can legally drive the car until the middle of next month, so just wait until 1st or even 2nd week in February before DS get insurance in his own name.

Do we have to wait for the change of ownerships docs back from DVLA before he can insure it in his name?

No, just do it when you bring it back.

Insure the car and send off the forms on the same day.

You dont need to wait for the logbook to transfer BUT... The insurance will ask if the cars owned and registered in
that persons name which it currently wont be.

Sure someone on here had an issue with that, They took out a policy & had not transferred the name over, But the insurance
worded it as was not in the persons name at the start date of the policy.

Change the logbook on the day you take the policy out or before.
