ebay, is it worth it?

hi all
I have loads of stuff I want to put on ebay, but after looking at similar stuff the prices are that they are going for are pants!. I have loads of baby items and clothes of mine and some unused toys. It seems to me to be alot of hassle listing, then posting for what seems like peanuts?.
Have never sold anything on ebay before and just wondered if I should just advertise my stuff locally first to see if I get a better price?.
And another thing that puts me off slightly, the last 2 things I bought off ebay were nothing but hassle had to file paypal charge backs for item not received and ebay really don't seem to give a stuff, would really hate to have hassle as a seller!.
Any opinions as to if its worth it?
hope this makes sense, i have a 2 yr old sat on my knee 'helping' me type!

I've sold loads of stuff on eBay, but I haven't made a fortune, lol.

I think, for me, it's just a way of getting rid of stuff I don't feel inclined to give to the charity shop.

I have not had any trouble as a seller. So long as you describe the object accurately and don't try to make a huge profit on the p&p, you'll be ok.

It can be fun and even exciting when something you don't expect to sell for much, ends up being the object of a bidding war!
I once had a briefcase which I had bought for £30, but found to be too heavy for me (it was solid leather) sell for over £70. The buyer was pleased with it and I was delighted to make so much.
On the other hand, I just sold something which actually cost me money to sell as I had undervalued the p&p - c'est la vie!!!
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

You could try selling clothes and toys at your local NCT sale. I have been to several, and have been surprised at what sells (both happily and sadly!)

In my experience, toys and equipment from named brands usually sell well, but clothes are not so hot. It really depends what brands they are.

    Good luck!
