Free Nursery Places - Bit of help please

My partner seems to think that the 15 hours per week free nursery places are changing and they will also be for 2 year olds.

All I can find online is that the places are for 3 - 4 year olds, with some limited information saying the govt. is going to introduce free places for 2 yo, but not until 2013 and only if you are on benefits.

Can anyone clarify this for me?

  • Hi,
I have a 2 year old and and 4 year old who attend the same pre-school. I havent had to pay for my 4 year old since he turned 3 as he gets the nursery education funding and does 15 hours per week. He starts primary school in Sept. My 2 year old attends 2 sessions per week, and i have to pay for her to go until she is 3.
Havent heard of the govt changing this so cant help with that, sorry. Someone will be along soon who will be able to help you and possibly know more about it.
  • The IVF worked;DS born 2006.
  • The free places for 2 year olds will only be for people on means tested benefits and fitting into certain catergories such as lone parents, disabled etc. At least these are the conditions of the pilot we are on, so they may change once it goes universal. Be aware that very few of our children are actually getting funded this way as the pot is very small, so don't hold your breath.

We wouldn't have qualified for it anyway, but by the time it does come around it won't make any difference anyway!

    Thanks for the replies.
