Thomson Holiday Changes - Rights?
y2mattdx
I am due to fly out in June to the Dominican Republic with Thomson but have just been informed that our flight has been cancelled. The only option available is to change our duration from 11 to 14 nights. Do I have any rights to get these extra days for free? I am going for a wedding, so this really is the only option, but I cannot avoid the extra days.
Any help would be great. Thanks.

This is what they say they will do:
Major changes to your holiday
Occasionally, we have to make major changes to the flight or accommodation making up your holiday with us. If we tell you about any of these changes after we have confirmed your holiday booking, you may either:
- accept the new arrangements offered by us; or
- accept a replacement holiday from us of equivalent or closely similar standard and price, if one is available; this can include the choice of a replacement holiday from another TUI Travel Group company. Should you choose this option the terms and conditions of your holiday will not change and these conditions will still apply to your booking.or
- cancel your holiday with us and receive a full refund of all monies paid.
I don't think you can claim the extra days for free as a legal right unless they offer it to you. If they don't offer them free that could be your starting point in negotiations them, but maybe you'll have to settle for paying cost price for the extra days.0 -
Is reducing your stay also an option?
Like the posts above have said I doubt you are entitled to the days for free, they may however offer them as a good will gesture so I would certainly be asking.
Check the prices on the dates you are flying out, occassionaly it can work out cheaper for 14 nights rather than 11 depending on the flight prices.0 -
Sometimes 14 nights can work out the same cost as 11 nights so i would check with them what the new cost would be if you were to amend?
Alternatively look at other travel agents to see if they have a 10 night duration avaliable or 14 nights, they might be cheaper than what Thomson quote you.
You should be able to cancel free of charge, but i would expect they'll ask you to pay the increased cost if they amend to 14 nights as it's not just the flight cost but the all inclusive at the hotel for the extra stay.0
