IT Support/Project work for a large outsourcer. Approx 8 years experience. £25k P.A. East Midlands

30 Years old, haven't progressed or earned as much as I'd like to. I think I came into the IT Sector 10 years too late, and also probably lack the drive and intelligence top progress as I'd like to.

Quite similar in experience, age and salary.

In the past two years I've achieved Net+, Security+, MCP, MCDST, MCTS, MCITP status but still make less than you.

The benefits I get aren't too bad:

    1. No boss (managed from a different country)
    2. 25 days plus bank holidays
    3. Full Bupa
    4. Yearly bonus
    5. Yearly Pay Rise

I know I could move on and make more but the job is cushy and 6 mins away from where I live. I suppose if I add the benefits, my overall package is worth much more than 24 grand.

The problem with my organisation is that the operations in this country aren't big enough to create more technical roles, which I more than capable of performing. If I want to play with more toys and work to my full potential then I must leave and go stateside. That said, I was offered to go over (3 times in 3 different departments in the two years I have been here) but every time the VISA has proved to be a problem.

So do I stay here or do I move on where I can work to my full potential and possibly make more? Dunno.

www.itjobswatch.co.uk is good for this, according to my DH (he's in IT, in that he is a programmer, search engine optimisation consultant or IT project manager depending on his current job contract - he works on short term contracts for companies he's generally work at before, large ones tho - inc one he used to have a fulltime position at for 3 years until 2009, which is handy/reliable!!)
