Hi all,
Hope some MSErs will be able to help out. I want to pass on my very old PC to my parents but the thing needs a good general tidyup and a reinstall of the OS which is wait for it .....Win 95 (yep until 4 weeks ago I was still using it.)
The trouble is I cannot fond the 95 CD that came with it. I think they may have gone to a charity shop bag a few months ago!!!
As I said it will just be for my parents to use for word processing, making their first venture on to dial up internet, keeping accounts on etc. Very little else really.
Does anyone have any suggestions where I can get a free / cheap OS from. I'm reluctant to use anything like Linux because
a) I'm not that clued up to remove Windos and install Linux
b) I know my dad will fiddle and get confused with something new. (he still is using my old 486 with Win 3.1!!!)
All help /suggestions well received?
Regards

If it's a Dell pm me and I'll happily send you a genuine Windows Millennium CD.........other than that, eBay is your friend. You'll always miss 100% of the shots you don't take - Wayne Gretzky
Any advice that you receive from me is worth exactly what you paid for it. Not a penny more or a penny less.0 -

Gosh, that's really old. I gave my parents my old machine at the end of last year and it was a machine that started out on ME and then I changed to XP. I'm glad of this especially as I'm getting broadband installed for them within the next week - I don't want them on dial up incase they fall foul of some dodgy phone dialler.
Why such a long length between changing of machines? Is it because you spend a lot on a new machine such that you run it into the ground before passing it on and getting a new one?

HI
Both
Yep it is a DELL but whether it will cope with the Millenium software I don't know but will PM you chuckles1066 it may well be a solution
I planned to run it into the ground and have pretty well suceeded on that front. and to be honest for the last few years I haven't really been that bothered with it I got everthing I needed from my work PC but now am a proud owner of a shiny new one that was less expensive than the old one but will be replaced much more regulalry now, and as a result so will my parents:T
As far as parents doing unexpected things My dad has an unquestioning belief in heis own abilities so much so that when he gets warning pop ups about deleting bits of Windows he thinks they don't apply to him. So not only is he using Win 3.1 he's using a lame verion of it!!!
