btw, i have another problem is that how can i get the full 4% interest without being taxed? or i won't get taxed if i'm still a international student? If i'm an international student and will be taxed from the interest, do i need to fill the inland revenue r85 form in order to not get taxed? thanks.

Depends on your residential and tax status. Do you have entitlement to a UK personal allowance?

I've been pondering one [Edit: or more] of these vantage accounts. Thanks guys for the clarifications.

I can't believe I've actually succumbed and got these. I was put off them by everyone on here harping on about them, but when my non-ISA savings total hit £15k, I did the maths and realised I would be over £100 per year better off biting the bullet and just joining the bandwagon.

I opened a Classic account online last week and today I have gone in and asked it to be upgraded to Vantage. I took the same opportunity to open another two (I took in a printout of their internet page saying you were allowed 3 per person) and he was fine about it. I was trying to dance the dance with him, saying I would like another one for my eBay transactions and one for my BTL transactions, and that I would therefore like debit cards for all of them and would use them like current accounts blah blah blah, but he knew exactly what I was there for and was very obliging. He was even pointing out how to maximise the interest and the 5k-7k rule.

It took around half an hour, but I've already got 10k in them (even though I haven't got a card or internet banking set up yet so I can't access it!), and will put in another 5k tomorrow.

I feel a little silly for not doing it sooner.

I tell anyone who want's to listen! As you can imagine several friends and relatives have signed up. Silly not to really.

I think this will last until interest rates start to rise, when better opportunities should rise elsewhere.
In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:

Know what you mean. Me too.

  • I know what you mean, but now I shout about them! If you have this kind of money it is far and above the best place to keep cash on easy access and their online banking is good too. I also did the Santander current account (last yr, don't think it's avail now) on max £2.5k @ 6%aer and the Halifax reward accounts x3 so that makes £180 a yr for nothing! All adds up! The £1k is shattered by the time it's been through all those different accounts and back to where it started from :rotfl:

Yes. £22.92 gross per month on £7,000 has to be well worth a punt (or two).
