Replacing Ford Stereo

I recently bought a 53 Reg Ford Fiesta which has the stereo below fitted, however, when I'm travelling at low speeds (anything slower than Motorway), CD's skip whenever I go over bumps/pot holes/etc.

Does anyone know if Ford do an 'upgrade' to this stereo that would fit in the spaces? I have looked at aftermarket stereos but I don't really want to cut the bars in the car so if I can get a better stereo without having to do any 'alterations' I'd be happy.

  • They do sell 'blanking plates' to cover the gaps left when replacing the larger Ford stereo with a 'normal size' one.

To be honest pretty much all CDs will skip when you hit potholes. A different stereo probably won't make much differences to this.

Thanks. I bought a Kenwood stereo for my last car (which I removed before it was scrapped as it was only a couple of months old) and it never skipped and it also had the advantage of iphone/usb connection, etc so was all round better really.
  • We'll I'd agree with having a connection for your ipod is a good reason to upgrade yeah. That's a big advantage. :)

It does not look from the photo that the sections between the separate items come out? Which would mean replacing the whole fascia, or cutting it!

Thanks guys, I've just found this on a Ford Parts website which looks like it'll do the job. Now I just need to find a good stereo :)

Ford really do go out of their way to make their radios as non-standard as possible don't they? :)
