Thanks for that Morledge. Another possible option is for my Sister to do part time, possibly 7,30 till 11.30am but not sure if she could get the hours, theres only one woman on part time who has a baby and its quite a big place. We have a meeting monday morning with someone from Carers charity in the town. As mentioned we have got the day/night attendance allowance for Mum and my brother just got £19 income support which could also go in the pot as they are ok for money, she brings home roughly £900 a month, she also gets a lift both ways off her Son who works 2 mins away so doesnt have travel expenses. Obviously needs to live so cant do it for nothing. Will let you know outcome

Whilst going part-time can be requested, the employer can legally refuse it.

Hi thanks for replies, my sister went into work today, agreed to part time if it came to it. My brother should be coming home tomorrow. Had meeting with welfare agency today, still not sure what she can get. Its possible that she can get Carers for Mum, direct payments for my brother, and we have some in the pot with the attendance allowance mum recently got, so fingers crossed enough for her to give up and care for them both

Thank you all for your replies. When Mum was diagnosed with dementia they asked us to apply for attendance allowance. I was truthful on the form and explained that she has been wandering in the night, just received notification today that she has got the higher rate. David gets DLA lower rate. They have appointed him a social worker to arrange things like outings for him. Its not really been fair on him. Although we have gone evenings and weekends he has in a way been her carer. Social Services rang today and are ringing back. We are hoping now they have started to wake him tonight that he will continue to improve. We love him so much, he lives life to the full. He has so many songs still to sing on the karaoke and so many darts still to throw! We have never begrudged the time, they are our family, and Mum cant help having the dementia, its been hard for her, my Dad died when I was 15 and she had five children. My brothers are starting to do more too, but they work as well. Thank you all for your replies, one things for sure, we will have to have more help now.
Thank goodness your mum & brother have got such a wonderful family to look after them. Do admire you & your sister very much. Wish all of you the very best.

This is a grey area. An employer can legally refuse it, if he/she has reasonable basis to do so. However, if employer has been unfair, you then have the legal right to go through the grievance procedure then Employment Tribunal.

Best wishes to you and your family. How lovely a thought that you and your sister are doing everything you can to help so much! :)

Thank you all for your replies. We got my brother home on the 8th and he is doing well. My Sister wanted 20 hours at work, they have given her 23 starting monday. All assesments not yet completed but as I said in an earlier post Mum got day and night attendance and my Brothers level of DLA has gone up. My sister will be losing 14 hours a week. We propose to set up a standing order to pay her from their joint bank account as she will be going round every afternoon, doing jobs, making teas and taking them out. My question is do we have to contact Tax office about this? Any advice would be appreciated , this is all new to us.
