Hello. I am new to this forum and I am looking for some advice regarding MBNA. I had a card with about £2500 on it last year. I decided to pay of the card in full and close the account. I rang to get the total balance I owed and informed them I wished to close the account. I then transferred the amount I was told to them and cancelled my direct debit. I had opted for paperless billing so didn't look at any statements. Several months later I received a letter telling me that I owed them about £50. I called them up and spoke to a very nice guy. He explained that it was "residual interest" and I hadn't actually closed the account. He agreed to reduce the amount owed to around £13 which I paid over the phone. He assured me the account was now closed. Imagine my surprise when I recently received another letter telling me that I was in arrears by 3 months and in breach of my contract. I now owed another £50. I called up and was very angry and the chap I spoke to told me my account was not closed. He spoke to his manager and agreed to drop the charges. He assured me that the account was now closed and I would receive a letter confirming this. I asked him his name. He replied "John". I asked for his full name and he told me he was not at liberty to give me that information. So again I have no proof of the telephone conversation. I fear I may receive another letter in a few months time telling me I am once again in arrears. Anybody had any similar experience and any advice on what I should do would be extremely welcome. Thankyou. Sorry for such a long first post.
