Good luck with the call! You'll feel so much better once you have spoken to them properly and have your budget etc worked out for you. It was a huge relief to me, let us know how it goes! :)xo

Thanks guys. Spoke to a very nice lady and we went through it all. Thought I was prepared but she had me rumaging for bits of paper and running round the house looking for account numbers :rotfl:
Got there in the end though. Only bit I struggled with was the 'short paragraph in my own words to my creditors to explain why' I could have gone on all day!!
I had to speak to the wife so we're giving our decision today which is basically to enter a DMP. We should be debt free in 5-7 years all being well plus be able to live stress free after the initial barrage of calls and letters.
I'll keep you posted and thanks again.

Well done. amazing how great it feels when you can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

One of the first things you will need to do is get a basic bank account set up which is not linked to any of your creditors and get your salaries paid into it.

As soon as payplan have given you a reference number it is probably worth writing to your creditors to let them know that you will now be passing all information to payplan give them your ref number and that they need to contact them.

If you keep getting phone calls send the letter below:

    Dear Sirs,

I am writing with reference to my account number ******** and the constant phone calls I am recieving from your company.

Please can you put all further correspondance to me in writing.

If you continue to harass me by telephone, you will also be in breach of the Communications Act (2003) s.127 and I will report you to OFCOM, Trading Standards and The Office of Fair Trading, meaning that you will be liable to a substantial fine.

Be advised that any further telephone calls from your company may be recorded and used in evidence and I expect this harassment to cease immediately.

    Good luck

Thanks for that letter. Was gonna ask for that :) We already have a basic bank account (Cashminder) and over the next week we're gonna move our wages to it and then climb aboard the rollercoaster and hold on tight!

Glad to hear so many positive things about Payplan - we have been told to get in touch with them through OH employers (he works for the Gov and needs to be squeaky clean when it comes to security ;)) Our total debt is about £34000 unsecured and I'd guess we've got about £500 a month to pay that off since I was made redundant just before Christmas.
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

    Do it, they're very helpful.

Thanks all, the deed is now done.

Early next week we will be contacted again to set up the DMP for real. The wife is changing her wages to go into the Co-op account next week and I will follow suit. I will be cancelling DD payments today and making token payments where I can to show willing.

Wish me luck. I'll update when I know more. We'll end with a pic of this evening's activity; the first step....

  • Evening all,
Following on from above I'm in the process of making token payments to creditors to show willing and commitment to my debt. My payments are mostly via an electronic standing order which I can action at any time. (I can't send a cheque as my account may very well be closed shortly).
Question is; Is there a letter template anywhere that I can use to explain why I have sent a lower payment?
    Thanks,
    A

There are fantastic templates on the national debt line website -

You need Section 5 for this letter.
